Our first Venue Decorating and Hen Party commission

Well when I was asked if I could plan a hen party and decorate the venue.. I must admit I did question if I could do it so that someone else could love it .  The person who asked me too had been a bridesmaid at my wedding ( So she knew what I was capable of ;O) )  I said of course and well the rest was history.

The bride to be did not want the normal hen night ... No hen night 'cheese'  Sooo what on earth was I going to do ?  Well I knew the wedding is to be in Cyprus .. So that was it a beach theme ;O)  Everything was ordered, items were made and then more were made...

On the day due to the venues  overbooking.. I found out that I could only start to decorate the venue 45 minutes before the bride to be arrived and more scarily that it was only half the room !!!  Yes I had a crazy panic.. Then set to it .. Time was not on my side

Heres what I achieved.

Here is a few of the guests

The final one is of the bride to be wearing the only bit of 'Cheese' that was allowed :O)
So pleased that you enjoyed your night girls..
Heres wishing the bride to be all the very best for your wedding day and your new life as Mrs. C

A fun few days.

Oh wow , it's been super fun here over the last few days !!

Sunday we had a great Stampin up class.  I am a believer of only having a certain number of attendees. I like to be available to assist everyone, at anytime they need me.  Anyway some of our regular ladies had work commitments. So we had a few spaces. Of course they were filled without a problem.. The great class has now extended by 1, as Lisa had a fantastic time and wants go come back to the next one.. Of course I said yes :0).
We missed our ladies that couldn't make it.. Mandy and Abi . But we are hoping that they are able to come to the next one. May 25th.

Monday was one of those days that happens once in a blue moon.. You know the days where you can look back and say ' that was a lovely day ' .. Nothing strange happened. It was just an all round happy day.. One customer made our hearts sing.. He told us how he had been married to his first wife from being young. She had become ill with dementure and sadly passed away in 2002. After this time he met another lady. He married again. He told us he had never been as happy as he was now :0) such a heart warming tale. You could tell that he did really loved his second wife with all his heart.  You could tell from his little stories that he was abit of a lad, in his younger days.. What a nice gentleman he was. He bought his wife some craft items as a gift.. Dies that he knew she didn't have and a couple of embossing folders... Awwwww made me smile. What a love he was.
We had spent the morning creating cards to put in our baskets.. I made a huge selection of cards and priced them at 50p - £1.25 :0)  there was new home cards. Baby cards , Wedding cards, birthday cards, just because cards and thank you cards.. So that was great fun !

Today has been another lovely day !! Now it's not often you get one of these days let alone 2 on the trot !!!  We have had lots of giggles, created lots more cards and wedding invitations, drunk bucket loads of tea, had visits of crafting and none crafting friends.  All this whilst serving customers too !! We have met a fair few new people today all of whom have been really nice. Hopefully they liked us too, so will be back, to visit us again . I know Michelle will as I have a big list of things to find for her :0)
So all in all another fun day. Awww not forgetting my lovely mum came in too :0).
Right off to do another order :0).  New stock is coming in thick and fast at the minute...

Come on Wednesday ... You have a lot to live up too :0)

Opening day 29th march

On March 29th. Oona Kay was ready to be unleashed to the world. Wow what a stressful time, but of course, stressful in a good way (if there is such a thing).  We had our local MP Vernon Coaker  to cut the ribbon at noon. What a lovely man he was. He's very supportive of local small businesses. So it only seemed right that I asked him.
You know the feeling you get when you wonder if anyone will actually come and you think that you will be the only one there ?  Well those fears were very short lived.  Soon the place began to fill and fill lol. I knew there was just no way that everyone would fit in the group photograph lol..
Sitting back and actually looking again at your vision . Only this time it was real !!  The purpose built workshop, the shop, the gift room,  the kitchen and even the office all just how I had imagined it to be.

Here's a few photographs..

Our first post for our new store :O)

So as some of my friends may know.... I've opened my own.. Craft, stationery and Photocopy shop :O) In the little town of Arnold in Nottingham.

Some of my friends may also know that I had a rubbish end to 2013. I really couldn't wait for it to end.  My beloved Grandad passed away and my dad was really poorly when they discovered he had an aortic aneorism. ( Dad is getting better ) Then just when you think it can not get any worse. The company that I worked for went into administration. Then I store closed down 16 days later !! All this was within 5 weeks. So as you can imagine I was ready to pop .  So new year came and I had an idea.. You know as you do :O)  I decided that I was going to open my own store... The rest of everything was abit of a blur as I started collecting items for the shop.. I had a vision in my head how I wanted it to look.. I wanted to make it have a warm friendly homely feel... I decided that I had to have some of my Grandads' things in there too. Anyway the weeks passed...
There was 2 shops in central Arnold that I liked..  One wanted me to sign a 5 year lease... Crazy in todays economy and with it being a new business. I just didn't want to commit to so much. The seconds' estate agent took over 5 weeks to send me details of the service charges. That was crazy as they knew I was ready to move in straight away.
I called into a local Business Centre on the off chance. I knew they had studios available and after reading about them on the internet. I knew that would be just what I was looking for. Its kind of strange. The business centre manager Jamie was there to show someone a studio, later that afternoon. But said I could look at it.. I went saw and fell in love.. The studio was perfect 5 well lit with natural light. It has a great view over the free car park and all entrances to the whole bit,, perfect !!  I told them I wanted it, there and then.. Paperwork was sorted and I had the keys there and then... Poor Jamie had to ring the other interested party to explain that the studio had been taken. :O)

That was it we had an empty shell

Then we just had to fill it with love :O)

On March 29th 2014  Just 3 months nearly after I had decided to start this venture.
Oona Kay's was opened by our local MP Vernon Coaker. Our 'grand' opening was attended by so many people. So I would like to say a great big thank you to each and everyone of them. In the picture I have there was approximately 20 people standing in the kitchen lol and then another 6 or so on the left. Then on the right there was another 10 ish lol. Not forgetting the ones in the doorway and that were stood behind me ( Jeannie ) lol

So theres a little bit about how we came to be and how we got where we are :O)
I will keep this blog up to date with all the goings on and what is happening at Oona Kay's

Thanks for popping in
Oona x
